Clinical Research Certificate Program

Purpose of the program

The Clinical Research Certificate Program is intended for working health professionals who would like additional training in clinical research, but who may not qualify or have the time to pursue the M.A.S degree.

The certificate is open to applicants who have MDs, health-related master's degrees (e.g., M.S.N., M.P.H., M.S.W., M.H.I.) or a health-related bachelor's degree (e.g., B.S.N., B.S. in pharmacy) with relevant work experience or certification. In addition, some clinical research coordinators (with a B.S. and who are SOCRA certified) may be eligible to apply.

Course of Study

The Certificate in Clinical Research requires residence for a minimum of three quarters, and the completion of at least 12 units. The required core courses are

  • CLH 202: Introduction to Clinical Research (fall quarter*, 3 units)
  • CLH/SPH 244: Intro to Medical Statistics (fall quarter, 4 units)
  • CLH 203: Methods in Clinical Research (winter quarter, 3 units)

The core courses are supplemented with one or more electives of the student's choosing. Electives are found in the topics of research, statistics, policy or informatics. Elective choices can be found on the website.

*CLH 202 is a two-week intensive course taken in early September

Application Process

Application deadline is June 15 for fall quarter.

Applications may be accepted after June 15 on a case-by-case basis until the program fills; however, it is ideal to begin the program in September with the first course (CLH 202), which typically occurs in early September.

For admission to this certificate program, the prospective student should expect to provide the following three items to UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education through the electronic application system:

  • Completed application
  • College or university transcripts (upload to application)
  • CV/Résumé (upload to application)
